Imaginary Sounds Mix 20: Cadillac Casanovas

Mix #20! Yay! It's a milestone..er...something.

______________________________

We don't want you to get the wrong idea. We here at Imaginary Sounds live in the present. At least I do. I don't think that all the best music was made before my generation, or that the seed of a movement, style, or genre is always better than anything that comes after it. But it does always benefit one to know your origins. Whether you listen to metal, indie rock, pop music, or anything else, early rock & roll, or Rockabilly, influenced it in ways that are still glaringly obvious.

Rockabilly officially came into it's own toward the end of World War II when such desperate styles as country, rhythm and blues, and jazz dance music came together to create a raucous party music for the post-WWII celebration. It was one of the most successful times in American history and these artists pushed the perimeters of fun, art, and taste to the degree that we can enjoy the music that we do today. We all know about the controversy that Elvis created, but it's important to see that Elvis was not the only person in the movement doing his thing and creating a new style of music that would become one of the dominant archetypes in popular music  for the rest of the century and, possibly, beyond.

This mix isn't necessarily meant to be an Essentials of Rockabilly mix, but it is my favorite songs i've found along my research. We hope you download and enjoy. If you're interested in finding more music in the rockabilly vein I suggest purchasing a great compilation here.

You forgot to say that it also marked the beginning of youth culture (although it's almost our grandparents we're talking about). Before this it was people like Sinatra who were big, and they were more for everyone, I think..

THomas.
