Imaginary Sounds Mix 11: Archimedes Said It Best

Well this is the last mix I'll post before going on a couple week vacation. Did this one pretty quickly so that bates love motel (Imaginary Sounds' other contributor) could post his next mix in a couple days, so be looking for that. Any Singles posts within the next couple weeks will probably come from him too. Knowing Louisiana, I might not have any internet connection to speak of.

I had a full page write up prepared for this post, but ultimately felt that it was barraging the reader with information when music like this should speak for itself. Coming out of ideas developed from equal parts jazz and classical music, run through the progressive rock machine, and digested in the stomach of East coast and Mid-West punk comes Math Rock. A lot of people don't like terms like "Math" rock, because as it has become more popular toward the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century the term has come to mean less and less. I hope this mix can bring things back to specifics. Experimentation with rhythm, speed, and dissonance. These songs explore the very fringes of modern rock music, and I hope it makes you think differently about what those guitar and bass players are doing--and how far they could really be pushing things.
