Imaginary Sounds Mix 9: Music from the Republic of Iceland

Finally! This mix has been plagued with bad luck and time restraints it seems. It's the lengthiest I've done, and it's taken the longest to complete as a result. I've re uploaded 4 times today because of problems with files--but enough whining! It's here. Enjoy!

Most people don't really think about Iceland. It's tucked away neatly to the north of everything most people consider important, and is relatively quiet in world politics. Until the recent collapse of their government under the stress of the world economic crisis, a peep was rarely heard out of the 40,000 square mile island country. It's a shame though really, because Iceland is beautiful in more ways than one. Being isolated from the rest of Europe has lent it's culture to their own delightful eccentricities; evident in it's language, cuisine, art, and especially music. The music scene there has it's own feel and atmosphere to the point of being almost instantly recognizable, and is regarded in the musical world as some of the most original stuff out there.

I've been into the music coming off the shores of Reykjavík (Iceland's capital, and largest city) since high school, when I first heard Björk and Sigur Rós; arguably the country's most popular musical exports. I dove deeper into the huge music scene there over time and this double mix includes most of the artists I found there. Some of these are not entirely obscure, and some are. This doesn't represent the full musical spectrum in Iceland and of course, there are many artists that I left out that some might instantly realize (the Sugercubes). There are always time restraints, and I'm always looking for the right feel for an entire mix. I can guarantee though, that there will be more Icelandic music mixes in the future.

As usual, these mixes are for promotional purposes only. For the artists. If you like their music, and you feel it's worth your money in these less than prosperous economic times; buy their music. Please delete the files from your computer after 24 hours. You can't delete from a burned cd though, can you?
