We got our first mix recommendation, one for a Anti-Folk mix; and there are also Post-Rock, and Tropicalia mixes still in production.
For the time being, here are 3 songs i've been obsessed with over the past week or so:
Cults - Go Outside
Cults is an indiepop/soul band from New York City. They signed to Forest Family Records in March 2010 and will release their first single (Go Outside b/w Most Wanted) on April 20th. It can be heard at Cults' bandcamp.
Sonnymoon - Houstatlantavegas
Sonnymoon consist of the silky vocals of Anna Wise, and the J Dilla obsessed beats of Dane Orr. Sonnymoon sound like all great things about the trip-hop movement of the early 90's, if it had been started just recently, during the rise of current hip hop movements like Hyperdub. This track is a cover of Drake's (which, I assure you, has nothing to do with the cover's quality) Houstatlantavegas, and is on their debut album Golden Age. You can hear more, and download that album at their bandcamp.
Balam Acab - See Birds
Balam Acab are a group from Ithaca, New York that are a part of the up-and-coming movement called (apparently) Witch House? Yeah...I don't know, but it sounds like the processed synthetic beats of late techno music mixed with the warm, transcendent vocals of the Cocteau Twins. But way scarier. And chilly. You can hear more at Balam Acab's myspace.
